Nigiri Sushi

Want to make sushi at home? With this simple recipe, you can create any sushi you like whether it’s classic nigiri, fresh sashimi, or creative rolls. All you need are a few key ingredients and a little practice to master the art of sushi-making.
Ingredients:
For the Sushi Rice:
- 1 cup sushi rice
- 1 ¼ cups water
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
For the Nigiri:
- 150g salmon/tuna/any sushi toppings of your choice(sashimi-grade, cut into 6 thin slices)
- ½ tsp wasabi (optional)
- 1 tsp soy sauce (for serving)
- ½ tsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Sushi Rice
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- Cook the rice according to the package instructions or in a rice cooker.
- In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Microwave for 10 seconds to dissolve.
- Once the rice is cooked, gently mix in the vinegar mixture while fanning to cool. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside.
Shape the Rice
- Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking.
- Take about 1 tbsp of sushi rice and gently shape it into a small oval mound.
Assemble the Nigiri
- (Optional) Spread a tiny amount of wasabi on one side of the salmon slice.
- Place the salmon slice over the rice and press lightly to secure it.
- Repeat with the remaining slices.
Serve & Enjoy!
- Arrange the nigiri on a plate, optionally garnishing with sesame seeds.
- Serve with soy sauce and extra wasabi on the side.
